We couldn’t have the Huskers in town without a trip to the ballpark. And Olivia had to be broken in to the Texas heat at some point! We had general admission tickets to this afternoon’s match up between the No. 5 Texas Longhorns (or Shorthorns as we learned they’re called up north) and the No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers. When we arrived at 2pm, it was 91 degrees and the general admission seats were along right field with direct sun rays. She stayed in her carseat with a light blanket draped over the top for about . . . 10 minutes. Then she wanted out, so we put her hat on and covered her in sunscreen. She did really well for about four innings (with a trip to the shade about once an inning). Then she got hot and cranky and tired. The Huskers were down 4 to 0, so we considered packing up. But then, the Huskers came back with six runs in the top of the fifth! We quickly decided we better move up to the reserved seating (all shaded). Getting out of the sun and away from the cheers of our fellow Husker fans, she quickly fell asleep. But before too long, Texas scored once and those Texas fans were way too loud for our sleeping beauty. She was happy to play and chew on toys, though, until she got hungry, and after that break, she was a good sport all the way to the end. Her first Husker victory in person (she did see the Husker football team win the Alamo Bowl earlier this year)!! Hopefully, they’ll finish off the series tomorrow afternoon with a win, too. Go Big Red!!
