Today I bit the bullet - I did something I’ve been putting off for quite awhile.  I went swimsuit shopping.  The 95 degree heat back in April told me I was going to have to get one if Olivia was ever going to get outside this summer.  I was actually optimistic on the way there - "it won’t be that bad this time," I told myself.  "Heck - in the last 6 months you’ve lost all your pregnancy weight + some.  You might even have fun."  After trying on 18 different swimsuits in three different sizes, I can say I definitely did not have fun and in fact, I have a few complaints for swimsuit designers.  First of all, how did it end up that men can wear long baggy shorts and women have to walk around in less than their underwear?  How can it be true that each company has a few designers and each store carries multiple designers and yet there are really only three swimsuit designs - granny, one piece and skimpy?  Why can you not come up with a design that is BOTH comfortable AND attractive?  Are any of you over 120 lbs?  Seriously, all of these swimsuits are made for girls with no hips, no curves, and no cleavage.  Where is the challenge in that?  And where do you get off charging $68 for a swimsuit??  I have to pay $68 for something that makes me feel like $14.99??  In the end, I did find a suit that is actually fairly flattering and modest enough that I am comfortable wearing it outside of the dressing room.  And since my most frequented spot will be the kiddie pool at the Y, I’m probably going to be okay.
