Not a Good Sign - Or Is It?
Published by Jenny October 28th, 2008 in Day to DayRecently, I asked Olivia to help me pick up the living room and she responded, “Who’s coming, Mama?” Later, I offered her a snack and she said, “Who made this, Mama?” This is not a good sign, I thought to myself. And then I got to thinking - maybe it is! After Violet was born, my new mother’s prayer group (we call ourselves “Madonnina’s Mothers”) created a Care Calendar for me where they invited a good number of folks to lighten our load and bring us dinner. As a result, we received a warm meal every three days for the first month. Livy remembers well that each evening we were expecting dinner, I requested her help in making the living room a bit more presentable. So even though I could feel bad about Livy’s comments which imply that we only clean when company is expected and I never cook, I’m choosing to feel blessed because she is reminding me that we are loved. Even though we are far from family and many dear friends in Nebraska, we have become part of a community here, too. And it does a mother good to know that her family is not alone. May God bless each of you who generously reached out to us. And if you know of someone who just had a baby, is suffering an extended illness or facing other challenges, I encourage you to set up a Care Calendar for them and share the love!

Brilliant! The women in my bible study do this for other women when they have babies…which is often! It’s fun to bring a meal to a tired mom and eager children. I’m so glad that people are there to take care of you when we can’t!
