The other day I was complimenting Olivia on being a sweet little girl. I told her that she is very good at making people happy and I like that about her. I asked her what makes her happy. Here was her list:
I like Disney Bingo.
I like singing.
I like playing with my sisters.
I like helping my Mommy.
I like making Sesame Street eggs with my Daddy (Easter eggs).
This morning on the way to preschool we had this exchange:
Liv: Mama, I saw a motorcycle. I wish Daddy could have a motorcycle.
Mama: Why?
Liv: Cause it could be so cool! And he could drive it to work and when he didn’t want to, he could leave it at home.
I swear JR is behind it all. You’re not going to wear me down – motorcycles are too dangerous for a father of 3 girls, 3 & under!! I need your help!!
A scooter is a nice alternative. I know, I’m not helping.
Problem is, I don’t think a scooter is any safer – in fact, it may be less safe since it travels at a slower rate of speed than the rest of the traffic . . .
I know I’m not helping either… but I’m pretty comfortable with Adam riding the scooter ONLY because he doesn’t drive it on the highway. He takes the back roads to and from work.
First, I’m comfortable with the safety of driving either a motorcycle or a scooter. I also bike on the street frequently, bicycle that is, and would put that in a similar category. I also haven’t done extensive research on accident statistics. But I’d be more comfortable riding on a divided highway like the interstate, than a residential street. Regardless, you have to be a defensive driver and assume that people don’t see you. From what I do know, obviously alcohol is the biggest risk. Other key safety factors are speeding, not wearing a helmet, and driving at night.
When I had the motorcycle, it was more of a street bike, and I never liked it on gravel roads, but J.R. got an endorsement on his drivers liscence, and it usually had a flat tire which kind of limited how much he got to drive it. Ha Ha.
Grandpa Andrews
HA HA. JR on a scooter. That just sounds funny! He must be getting old(er)!!!!
For the record, and Jenny knows this, I did not put Livy up to this or coached her in any way. I’ve been meaning to write a post on the topic of getting a motorcycle but haven’t gotten to it yet. The main obstacle right now is cost. I’ve got the license and have ridden previously. And admittedly I’m prone to doing stupid crazy things that most other sane people wouldn’t do. Although I’d also consider myself to be reasonably safe.
I had a Triumph 650 and it would make light poles flicker as I went by (until it would shut down and I would have to push it 5 miles home.
Jenny, I grew up on a farm with motorcycles, not horses. I always wanted a horse. Instead, I have 3 bad scars from a barb wire fence to show for it. If he gets the motorcycle…make sure he signs his donor card….and has the life insurance paid up.:)
I’m sorry, I’ve been crazy busy, and am bad at communicating when I feel overwhelmed…..Are you guys heading up next week for the Marathon?
JR on a Vespa… That’s comedy!
OH, did we see a “bike” for you parked at the local watering hole in town after T-ball practice yesterday. Here is a pic of one just like it online!
