JR always knew that we were going to have an Australian Shepherd as soon as we lived in a house with a yard.  He struggled through our first year of marriage in an apartment and then waited for just the right litter of puppies for our red merle female - "Red".  We brought her to Texas when she was three months old and she stole our hearts right away.  She’s the smartest dog I’ve ever seen and she has a very sweet tempermant. JR is the master dog trainer and has her doing all of the following tricks:

• Down
• Sit
• Speak
• Roll Over
• Play Dead
• Beg
• Shake
• High Five
• Wave
• Take (So you can direct her over to a spot and tell her "take" and she’ll pick up what ever is there. Handy for getting the remote or phone)
• Spin (we made this one up one night when she was crazy to go get the mail)
• Dance (she basically just jumps around on her back legs)
• Close It (So that close the door after herself. We let her outside to do her business and don’t latch the door, then she pushes it open and closes it behind herself.)
• Pivo (Czech for beer - it means open the fridge and bring me a beer - she’ll do bottles or cans if they’re on the right shelf, really!)

I’m working on "Say your prayers" - it will be pretty close to this when she gets it down.  She’s been very good with Olivia and I’m sure they will be the best of playmates very soon.  Red loves the neighbor kids and can’t wait to see them get off the bus each afternoon.  Besides impressing folks with her tricks, Red is very good at making friends!  She literally follows Olivia & I around ’like a puppy’ and is happy to help whereever she can.
